Another Cake Topper?

Yes indeed!  You may remember our first cake topper, which is perfect for our travel themed cake, but I couldn't stop there.

When I first came across the Etsy shop Mud Cards to create our suitcase topper, I was pulled in by the customization of her toppers to resemble the bride and groom as well as their interests.  After receiving our other topper, I thought to myself, how cute would it be to get one made of us to go next to our groom's cake?  This would be one that we could display after the wedding in a cute shadow box in our home.  I ran it by Mr. E (who was all for it) and placed the order.

Working with Keren again was amazing! She asked for pictures of us and our wedding attire to really execute the details and was quick to make any changes that I requested.  I LOVE the final product!  I still can't believe how well she did on the details to truly make this us!

Mr. E selected the Xbox for his interest while I went with my laptop and added a lil nod to my blogging moniker.

And here are some close ups of the details.  First off we have Mr. E's tie, which will be the stand out blue/green thanks to the Hive's votes!

I love all of the details that Keren incorporated from my wedding day look!  The biggest of all being the dress, she nailed the beading and rouching features.

Look at those blue shoes!  That's a little detail that others most likely won't notice, but I did and it made me smile.

Finally we have my hair and accessory from my hair trial.  Too cute!

A gamer's piece of cake

Well we can't leave all the cool cake inspiration just to the "bride's" cake!

Down South it's pretty much tradition to have a groom's cake, normally shaped as an interest of the groom's. From sports teams, to colleges, to hobbies - groom's cakes can be a fun way to spotlight the groom.

It didn't take too long to figure out what our inspiration for Mr. E's cake would be. Mr. E is a gamer. Not just your average one system gamer... we have a Wii, Playstation 3, XBox 360 and 2 Nintendo DSs in our household. Yeah, I would say we have almost all gaming options covered.

We decided on the XBox 360 since that was Mr. E's favorite, and appears to be something very easy to shape out of a cake. It wasn't too hard to find some awesome inspiration pictures online, now we just have to find a baker that can bring it to life.

During one of my many random searches of real wedding inspiration online I stumbled upon this.

Love it! I knew I didn’t want the standard silver cake stand that is supplied by our cake baker (for a fee) for our wedding, but wasn’t sure what I would do in its place until I saw this picture. I love the added light from below, making the cake more of a focal point.

The best part was that I found this inspiration picture in the bio of a local bride who ordered all the supplies and made the cake stand for her wedding. I asked her where she bought the supplies and she replied that she was willing to sell the whole set up at a discount! We met at a local Starbucks to make the exchange and then I promptly went home and set it up for a little photo shoot.

The plan is to add some spider mums in the 4 corner votives, and possibly some filler beads to hide the flora lights in the middle. I love the set up and can’t wait to see it with our cake on our wedding day!

That's right, cake toppers! When I first thought of cake toppers I thought I would DIY some bling to our initials like this

And then I started researching more on the web and noticed the ever so popular birds

But then while flipping through the Knot magazine I saw a picture of this cake and just had to have it!

This cake was perfect and helped to inspire our travel theme. After my other great experiences with Etsy and ordering our stamps, I figured it wouldn't hurt to look around and see if I could get a custom cake topper fashioned like the suitcases you see on our inspiration cake.

I searched the polymer clay creations and found this one... how perfect is that for us?

It nails the interracial aspect of us, maybe not so much on the bride pulling the groom away from his Xbox 360.  Now a days Mr. E barely has time to play games, so when he does I don't have any problem with it. There may be a little bit in the budget for this to go next to or on top of the groom's cake (which will have a gaming theme), so I'll cross my fingers for that.

I messaged mudcards (Keren, who was the same vendor that made Miss Cardigan's topper) and asked if she could make a custom cake topper in our colors based on that Knot photo. Keren was awesome! She said she would make it, at no charge and send me pictures. If I liked it, then I could purchase it, if not then no harm no foul. About 4 weeks later I received an Etsy conversation with pictures of the cake topper, I was so excited!



YAY!! They are just what I was looking for. I love the initials on the suitcase which will be the front of the cake. This will also help us when we begin the vendor search for a cake baker, making it easier to visualize our inspiration. And just because she's a cutie, here's Gypsy checking out the cake topper.
