Our First Wedding Gift!

There's nothing like walking back from the gym and running into the FedEx driver (who might as well be on a first name basis with the amount of stuff ordered for this wedding) who asks us if we would like a wedding gift.

I was a little surprised but figured that the large heavy box from Bed, Bath & Beyond was a giveaway.  Lucky for her, Mr. E saved her from climbing the stairs to our apartment with the heavy box.  Of course I had to document this milestone!

Is the box heavy or are your arms tired from lifting weights?

Now the only problem will be, where to store these gifts with the DIY projects taking over the guest room.

Oh, and in related news - If you have a friend that is getting married and going to register at BB&B, have them list you as their referral.  Thanks to BM Philly we got a $25 certificate (for use on a $50 purchase) in the mail!  Remember the bedding we originally registered for? 

Well that was last summer and it is now no longer available (sad face).  Mama E and I happen to be searching BB&B and found the comforter set in the clearance section. Reduced price and an extra $25 off? Score!! I have now been to 3 or 4 other stores collecting the decorative pillows (originally $39.99 per pillow down to $4.99,  plus 20% off coupons, heck yeah!!)

Side note, I always seem to think of Toy Story whenever we head to Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Anywho - Bed, Bath & Beyond was an easy pick for us when we were deciding on which stores to register at. We became quiet familiar with the BB&B registry system in 2009 with 5 weddings to attend, and who doesn't love to use those 20% off coupons and get more bang for your buck?

I actually set up the registry at a bridal show (to get a free pair of salad tongs) last year but never added any items - I really wanted to include Mr. E in this wedding experience. We headed to the store on a weekday, so the store was fairly empty, and we were able to get assistance right away.

We selected some "casual china" from the book and then were on our own to scan our little hearts out. I must admit, Mr. E became quite the scanning pro during our time there.

We selected items for the bathroom, future bedroom (after the wedding, once we get into a new house we will be upgrading to a king size bed. Can. not. wait!), kitchen, entertaining items, dining and more.

We were in BB&B for a little over an hour before we realized we were cutting it close for our cake tasting (more on that later). We did some rush scanning in the kitchen utensils and figured we could either go back later or update it online.

Did you register in the store or online? If you went the store route, did you take your FI with you? Were you surprised to see a couple items on your list that your FI added while you weren't looking? I know I was ;)

My first adventure into registering

My mom received an email (probably as a result of using her email to get the $1 off coupon for the bridal show) from Crate & Barrel for a registering party. The invite indicated that the store would be open on Sunday for the private event, with free food and drink as well as friendly employees to help brides register without the normal everyday crowd. Chris had to work, but we figured we should try it out anyways (by the looks on the other guys that were in the store, I'm sure Chris didn't miss too much). But don't you worry, Chris will be there for the big registering trip at Bed Bath & Beyond!

We started off with some drinks and quiches and then walked through the furniture. As the store employees informed us, don't feel bad about registering for furniture even if you don't think anyone will buy it for you. Crate & Barrel will send the bride & groom a 10% off certificate after the wedding to buy anything off their registry that they did not receive. We found one dining room table that I liked, and that was really about it so we headed downstairs.

We ended up registering for about 20 items including silverware, wine glasses and pots & pans. When I went to the computer to set up our registry, I noticed that the only years available were 2008 (hello? hasn't that year passed?) 2009, and 2010. I asked the employee what I should do, and the only answer she could come up with was to use our date and the year 2010 and then later change it online when 2011 is available.

All in all it was a fun way to "dip our toes" into the whole registry process. I can't wait to do it again at Bed Bath & Beyond when it's a little bit closer to our wedding date.
